In October and November, 5-Penny and Estria Ensemble are celebrating the 100th anniversary of the prolific composer, Elliott Carter, in 3 concerts. I’m practicing hard on several of his pieces for the concerts and for my second CD recording in October..!!
The well-known artist, Eli Bornstein, and his wife, celebrated actress, Christina, are great supporters of contemporary music. Mr. Bornstein gave me permission to reproduce one of his artworks as the cover of my first CD and my forthcoming second CD!
These are my favorite gang of Sudbury! Silver Birch String Quartet and the bassist, Tom, were awesome!
alcides, Meg, Robert, and I are toasting after the exciting concert of “Duo Sheppard-lanza” at 5-Penny. Thanks, alcides and Meg!
Debbie and I are relaxing after the recital of voice and piano at the beautiful house of Johanna and Hans in Manitoulin Island, while our husbands (both composers) are cheering with Budweiser…!! : )
For two days, we played all kinds of music of Berio and Canadian composers at the February events of 5-Penny New Music Concerts. Christian, James, Alexandra, and Wallace are amazing musicians!!
I had a privilege playing Schoenberg’s pieces in front of three children of Arnold Schoenberg last summer. They were warm, enthusiastic, and down-to-earth. I will treasure this photo forever…
Having been praised by the press as “precise and keenly projective” and demonstrating “the highest level of proficiency,” Japanese-Canadian pianist Yoko Hirota is considered one of the leading interpreters of contemporary piano repertory of her generation. Her first CD, “The Piano Music of Arnold Schoenberg with 17 Fragments,” was released to critical acclaim and was recently listed as one of Essential Tracks by The Globe and Mail. Ms. Hirota is a strong advocate of the music of our time and in particular music by Canadian composers. Her performances are often broadcast on Société Radio-Canada.
